Sauver Nigam
Sauver Nigam is the first eco friendly houseboat sailing the backwaters of Kerala!
So much so that it became the benchmark for certifying boats in the backwaters. Winner of the "most eco-friendly tourism project in Kerala-1998-1999'.
One of the biggest two bed room boats on the backwaters, it is 75 feet long and 15 feet wide, In fact, the two large bedrooms it offers are almost 50% bigger than those of the other standard houseboats. Each tastefully designed & air-conditioned room has an attached bath, complete with running warm and cold water, shower curtains, and western-style toilet with modern facilities.
The boat has solar panels to provide warm water and is fitted with onboard septic tank, to ensure the lagoon water is not contaminated.
A special sitting area has been provided at the front side of the boat, to offer passengers a panoramic view of the greenery and emerald waters ahead.
Traditionally called a "Kettuvallum" (meaning rice barge), the shallow and rounded hull of the boat is made without using a single nail. Each Anjali wood plank is joined to the next with strong coir rope and then coated with caustic black resin obtained from boiled cashew kernels and fish oils. These boats were built for transportation in the placid lagoon water and the technique of boat making has existed for many centuries.
For the gastronomical pleasure of the guests abroad, an experienced cook creates the most tempting seafood and delectable coconut milk based cuisine of the region.
Battery powered system, supported by a standby generator, assures uninterrupted power supply throughout the journey.
We welcome you to experience this unique concept in the area that National Geographic Traveler has called the "50 top destinations of the next millennium."
